Feb. 2—GRAND FORKS — At the request of family members and friends, the UND Alumni Association and Foundation has set up a memorial scholarship in honor of Wayne Stenehjem. Smith said Alumni Association staff established the fund on Monday, Jan. 31, then sent out word about it to a group of donors. At present, 30 donations to the scholarship fund have been made totaling nearly $10,000. Stenehjem received a bachelor's degree in history from UND in 1974, and he was a 1977 law school graduate. Holmes-Wayne Electric announces annual scholarship winners

Holmes-Wayne Electric Cooperative will be handing out more than $20,000 this year to area high school seniors. The co-op’s annual scholarship contest, which since it was established has distributed more than a quarter of a million dollars, is available to the children of co-op members who live in a district served by Wayne-Holmes Electric. This year’s first place winner is Megan Westbrook, a senior at West Holmes High School, who’ll receive a $3,000 scholarship. The remainder of the money will then be divided among the nine other finalists.

Jim Poolman and the UND Alumni Association Foundation will use donations in his honor, to fund scholarships for law students. The UND School of Law costs more than $575 per credit hour. Loyd Wayne “Dude” Dickens, 78, died Saturday, January 30, 2021 in his Littleton home. Dude was born on September 8, 1942, in Halifax County, to Loyd Edward and Louise Mullis Dickens. Dude is survived by his wife, Regina Schaaf Dickens; step-mother, Doris Tart Dickens; brother, Dalton T. Dickens (Donna); sister, Celestia D. Long; and his brother-in-law Dale Medlin. The memorial service for Dude Dickens will be held at 12 noon in the church, with Pastor Stan Lewis presiding. Article by Blake Franklin-On Friday afternoon, May 6, 2022, family member of the late Steve Hinson met on the ground of Pine Tree Country Club to present the 1st Annual Steve Hinson Memorial Scholarship to the recipient winner of this year’s award. Requirements for the scholarship are that the recipient be a member of Pine Tree Country Club and also be a member of the Lexington High School golf team, that will be pursuing higher education on the college level. This year’s scholarship recipient of the very first ever Steve Hinson Memorial Scholarship went to Avery Stone. She is a three-year member of the Lexington High School golf team and is the daughter of David and Vanessa Stone. Carolyn Hinson, the widow of the late Steve Hinson, along with his brother Jack Hinson, presented to award to Avery that Friday afternoon.
