PITTSFIELD — A Pittsfield High School senior's essay on the history of Highland Farms has earned her this year's Pike County Historical Society scholarship.
Raegan Smithers said she wrote about the farm because of her personal connection.
"Highland Farms will always have a place in my heart, even when I am several hours away,” she said.
The shorthorn cattle farm has been a part of the Smithers family since 1910.
Raegan Smithers is the daughter of Noelle Flesner and Jason Smithers. She plans to attend the University of Illinois to study nursing and become a nurse practitioner.
